The Orlando Magic’s win streak will continue after they were able to escape the Washington Wizards 136-131 in overtime on Thursday. Here is what stood out:
One night after notching a season-high 23 points in a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Magic forward Tristan da Silva outdid the performance by logging a career-high 26 points in the win over the Wizards.
Da Silva played 41 minutes and hit 10 of his 18 shot attempts from the field and three of his six attempts from 3-point range. He also grabbed seven rebounds to go along with four steals and two blocks.
Through seven games in March, da Silva is averaging 14.2 points per game on 60% shooting from the field and 48.3% shooting from the perimeter.
While da Silva was able to set a new personal record, Jalen Suggs was also able to log a season-high 28 points to lead his team.
Suggs hit 10 of his 17 shots while dishing out eight assists in 34 minutes. He also grabbed two steals in the victory.
During March, Suggs is averaging 14.5 points, five assists and 1.8 steals per game.
As it got later into the fourth quarter, it seemed as if the Magic would walk out of the Kia Center with an easy win.
Orlando led by 16 points with 06:18 remaining in regulation, but things began to turn as Washington started to mount a comeback.
Within the next three minutes, Orlando watched its lead shrink to six points. The Magic had a chance to win after Desmond Bane hit two free throws with nine seconds remaining to give his team a 123-120 lead, but then Bilal Coulibaly, who scored a game-high 29 points, hit a 27-foot three with six seconds left to complete a 5-0 run on his own and cap off a 13-point quarter.
In the overtime period, the Magic were able to outscore the Wizards 13-8 while going 5-9 from the field to close the game and see their win streak live another day, but their late game collapse could have easily gone a different direction.
After scoring a game-high 35 points on 12-19 shooting to lead the Magic over the Cavs on Wednesday, Bane scored 22 points on 7-14 shooting.
After initially struggling to shoot consistently during his first few months in a Magic jersey, Bane is in his third-straight month of shooting over 50% from the field. In March, he is averaging 23.2 points while shooting 52.9% from the floor.
The Magic will travel to Miami next to take on the Heat for a battle for fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
