Former Orlando Magic coach Jamahl Mosley has a new job, and it did not take Stephen A. Smith and Kendrick Perkins long to give their thoughts on it.

It did not take long for ex-Orlando Magic coach Jamahl Mosley to land in his new destination.

News dropped on Monday morning via ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania that Mosley has agreed to a five-year deal to become the next head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. The move comes exactly two weeks after the news released that Mosley was being fired by the Orlando Magic following their Game 7 loss to the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the playoffs.

Mosley’s tenure in Orlando came to an end after five seasons and three-straight trips to the playoffs, and news of his new job with the Pelicans prompted former NBA Champion Kendrick Perkins to criticize the Magic for moving on from Mosley.

"I actually like this hire," Perkins said on First Take. "I think Jamahl Mosley is a hell of a coach. I don't think he deserved to be fired from the Orlando Magic, but that's neither here nor there.

Great job by Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver. Although, I would have liked to see my brother, Rajon Rondo get that job, I'm just saying."

Stephen A. Smith also provided his thoughts on the hire.

"I don't mind Jamahl Mosley," Smith said. "I mean, he had five years in Orlando. He took them to the playoffs the last three years, only won 46% of his games, but took them to the playoffs the last three years. Two of those three years were winning records. Couldn't get out of the first round."

In 410 regular season games as the coach of the Magic, Mosley went 189-221, with his first two seasons finishing well below the .500 mark. In 19 playoff games, he was 7-12. Smith continued to give Mosley credit while simultaneously agreeing with Perkins’ stance on wishing Rondo got the position.

"But I really would have liked to have seen Rajon Rondo get the job," Smith added. "I think that he has the potential to be a head coach in this league. Him and Sam Cassell are two people that I would love to see get a head coaching job in the NBA, sooner than later.

"But you can't knock Joe D. Picking Mosley. He's experienced over the last five years, he's got an executive in Joe Dumars that knows what the hell he's doing. I'm certainly not going to call it a bad hire, and I like Jamahl Mosley. I'm wishing him well."
