The Orlando Magic are having a successful campaign so far but may need to make a move before the trade deadline.
CBS Sports released their ultimate trade guide, highlighting 100 possible trade candidates who could be dealt prior to the deadline in Feb. The list was split into tiers of how likely the player could be moved. The first player from the Magic to make the list is the most surprising. Franz Wagner was placed in the third tier titled "Maybe For Giannis (And Still Probably Not)."
"Orlando may be ambitious enough to take the Giannis swing if this drags into the summer," the article wrote. "For now, having just made the Desmond Bane trade and largely seeing positive results early in the season, the Magic would probably prefer to wait and see how they do in a weak East. Besides, that gives them more time to evaluate Wagner against Paolo Banchero and see which they'd prefer to move, as Banchero's rookie extension makes him difficult to trade at the moment. Neither is moving yet unless it's for an Antetokounmpo-level upgrade."
The second player from Orlando to crack the list is recent offseason acquisition Tyus Jones, who has struggled throughout his short tenure with the team. He was placed in the ninth tier titled "Cap Dumps, Expiring Contracts."
"Jones has been a mess this season, and with Anthony Black looking like a long-term keeper, the Magic really need to delay their tax clock as long as possible," the article added. "Getting off of the Jones contract does that for Orlando, though there are other feasible means (potentially a Jett Howard dump, for instance)."
Jones is only making $7 million on an expiring veteran contract so parting with him for another role player could be in the cards. The article highlighted Jett Howard as a potential option to flip as well and with Jase Richardson's strong performance in limited playing time, Howard could be a solid option to move.
One final member of the Magic who the article neglected to mention is backup center Moritz Wagner, who still has not made his return to the court yet after suffering a torn ACL last season. He sits on an expiring contract and if he comes back healthy, he could potentially be a player who could be dealt prior to Feb. Whichever team acquires him, if any, likely views him as a salary dump this offseason with his expiring deal anyways.
