Paolo Banchero Leads Magic Toward Winning Ways cover image

As the Orlando Magic look to get their season back on track, it all starts with All-Star forward Paolo Banchero.

The Orlando Magic certainly didn't have the start many expected for the season, but they have managed to get back to winning habits. They completed back-to-back victories against the Charlotte Hornets and Washington Wizards. Granted, those opponents are not viewed in the same tier as the Magic, but it could be the turning point of the season.

Of course, it all starts with All-Star forward Paolo Banchero. He's put up great numbers to begin the season, despite continuous three-point woes, but it hasn't led to winning games. However, in their last two victories, things might have changed.

On Thursday against the Hornets, Banchero recorded 20 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, and two steals while making two three-pointers out of four attempts. The 22-year-old isn't the type of player whose game revolves from behind the arc, but if he manages to be efficient, then that helps the Magic's offense tremendously.

Then on Saturday against the Wizards, Banchero finished with 28 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks while making three three-pointers out of six attempts. That's his second double-double of the season already.

He is the head of the snake for the Magic franchise; they go as far as he can take them. The team was viewed as one of the best in the Eastern Conference. However, the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers, who are within the same tier, have also struggled to begin the season.

It's still early, but the Magic need to click on both sides of the court if they wish to accomplish the goals that have been set. The team has the pieces to go on a deep playoff run, but nobody reaches new heights solely based on potential.

As Banchero continues to find his rhythm, Franz Wagner needs to continue playing at an All-Star level, Wendell Carter Jr. must remain aggressive, Desmond Bane and Tyus Jones have to find a flow within the system, which is relatively new to them, plus Anthony Black and Tristan da Silva must continue being sparks off the bench.

The Magic have assembled the best roster they've had in years and have championship aspirations for the first time since franchise legend Dwight Howard left in 2012. The organization hasn't won a first-round series since 2010.

They seek to end that drought this year and more, but to do that, Banchero must continue to improve with the team following.

The Magic will face the Hawks in Atlanta on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. They will be without All-Star guard Trae Young, who is currently sidelined with a sprained MCL in his right knee. Regardless, the Magic must continue to string wins together and build on them.
