After signing Exhibit 10 contracts before training camp, Dexter Dennis and Greg Brown III have done enough to earn two-way contracts from the Dallas Mavericks.
After waiving three players in training camp one week ago, leaving two two-way contract spots open, the Dallas Mavericks have finally made a decision on how they'll fill those spots with opening night against the San Antonio Spurs just four days away.
On Saturday, the team officially announced that rookie guard Dexter Dennis and third-year forward Greg Brown III have been converted to two-way contracts. Both players were previously signed to Exhibit 10 contracts before being converted. Dennis will wear No. 17, and Brown will wear No. 13.
Dennis, who was a fifth-year senior at Texas A&M last season, went undrafted earlier this year. However, his defensive tenacity and ability to hit shots from deep opened eyes during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. While on an Exhibit 10 deal in preseason, the 24-year-old guard didn't put up crazy numbers, but he showed flashes of how he could potentially help the Mavs going forward.
Brown, although he's spent two years in the league with the Portland Trail Blazers already, is still two years younger than Dennis. Through two NBA seasons, Brown has averaged 4.0 points and 1.2 rebounds in 64 games. The 6-9 forward still hasn't gotten a real chance to flourish, but perhaps this two-way contract with the Mavs can get the wheels turning.
With these moves, the Mavs' roster is complete heading into Wednesday's season opener against Victor Wembanyama's Spurs barring an unforeseen trade. All three Mavs two-way contract are now accounted for with Dennis, Brown and second-year player A.J. Lawson.
