As for the trade speculation surrounding LeBron James and the Dallas Mavericks, NBA Insider Marc Stein reports those chances are highly unlikely.
Despite their teams being out of the running for the Larry O'Brien trophy this season, Mavericks' Kyrie Irving and Lakers' LeBron James sure know how to keep their names, and teams, in the news and on the minds of basketball fans everywhere.
On Saturday, NBA insider Marc Stein reported in his Substack daily newsletter that Dallas has 'roughly zero chance' of making a trade for James.
The trade speculation of James landing in Dallas felt like a massive long shot when the report first came out that Irving had reached out to his former running mate about potentially joining him with the Mavericks.
For Dallas, it can be argued that acquiring the likes of James is certainly enticing on the surface, but having to part with multiple draft picks along with likely adding Josh Green and Jaden Hardy to the deal would deplete the Mavs' depth and future for a 38-year old who may not have much time left in the league.
As for James, leaving Los Angeles, who just fought their way to an appearance in the Western Conference Finals, while his son, Bronny, starts his journey playing basketball at USC this fall, combine to make the likelihood for a change of scenery to be small.
At this point as the NBA Finals comes to a close, all signs point towards Irving re-signing with the Mavs while James runs it back with the Lakers for his 21st season.
