The Dallas Mavericks are set to head out to a new home in the next few years, with a group tied to one notable Dallas owner joining in on the mission.
The Dallas Mavericks are set to move out of their longtime home right in the heart of Dallas in the next few years.
The lease between the Mavs and their current home, the American Airlines Center, will reach its end in 2031.
However, the team will not be headed too far from its roots, with a lucrative concept for a state-of-the-art arena at the nearby site of the former Valley View Mall in the works.
Such lofty ideas are going require extensive time, planning and most of all, money. Thankfully for the Mavs, they seemed to have drawn the eyes of a potential partner that has ties to the Metroplex.
Legends Global, a company under the umbrella of Jerry Jones co-founded Legends Hospitality, is set to take up the role of representing the Mavs in their pursuit of creating a new landmark for the basketball world and the Dallas community.
According to a statement from Legends Global, it will be "an independent third-party representing the Mavericks from pre-design through closeout." The group will also be responsible for crafting the budget and construction schedules and providing a link between the team and contractors.
The Mavs sent out their own statement on the partnership. "As we set out to redefine the premium and fan experience in Dallas and beyond, we're excited to partner with Legends Global to help bring that vision to life," said team president Ethan Casson.
While the project promises to be one of the most revolutionary and modern displays in the entire NBA, the decision to ship yet another of Dallas' mainstays out of the city left some feeling dissatisfied.
Granted, the presumptive site is merely around a 30 minute trek from downtown Dallas and will allow for more expansive development. But those facts do not entirely remove the disappointment the move carries for some.
And there is still a slim chance that the hopes will be dashed, as the deal between the team and the owners of the Valley View property is not set to be finalized until early 2028.
Although the inclusion of Legends Global makes it even more unlikely that the Mavs will have a sudden chance of heart nor face pressure from Dallas to stay within the city limits.
It is somewhat poetic that the group helping the Mavs lead the charge on their exodus has ties to the man that knows all too well about building a triumphant arena on the outskirts of its true namesake city.
Jones is famous for his own grand moves as owner of the Dallas Cowboys. Perhaps most exemplified by his extravagant AT&T Stadium, which is affectionately known as Jerry World, out in nearby Arlington.
That project has proved to be fruitful for Jones and the Cowboys thus far.
It remains to be seen what will become of the over 100-acre paradise that the Mavericks have envisioned for their latest chapter in Dallas. But the involvement of one of the area's biggest representatives signals that they are not messing around.
