Cooper Flagg ignites Dallas' future, delivering star power and all-around impact. Alongside fellow standout Nembhard, this rookie class promises a bright era for the Mavericks.
The Dallas Mavericks may have quietly assembled one of the most impactful rookie classes in the league this season, blending star power with unexpected depth. Despite the team's disappointing season, they can rest easy knowing their future is in good hands.
In a recent article by Bleacher Report's Greg Swartz, he gives a final grade to every NBA team when it comes to their rookies. And for the Mavericks, he gives them a quite obvious A+.
Cooper Flagg has been the centerpiece, and his debut campaign has felt anything but typical. Rather than easing into the league, he immediately took on major responsibility and delivered.
His scoring ability has drawn the most attention, but it’s his all-around game that has truly separated him. Flagg contributes across the stat sheet, impacting possessions as a rebounder, facilitator, and defender.
The 19-year-old phenom finished the year averaging 21 points, just under seven rebounds, and 4.5 assists. And past the stuff that shows up in the stats, his ability to fill in as the team's point guard with Kyrie Irving out for the season was absolutely invaluable.
While Flagg definitely drew most of the spotlight, he wasn't the only rookie making a difference. Ryan Nembhard emerged as a key contributor in his own right, providing stability in the backcourt. His ability to handle the ball, make smart decisions, and knock down perimeter shots filled an important gap for Dallas.
The former Gonzaga Bulldog scored just around six points per game, but also contributed over five assists in the 60 games where he suited up.
Nembhard’s rise has been particularly notable given how he entered the league. He’s played with the poise of a veteran, stepping into significant minutes and holding his own against more experienced competition. And he has done all of that despite going undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Altogether, this rookie group has delivered far more than most teams could reasonably expect. It’s not just about flashes of potential—it’s about real, consistent production. If this season is any indication, Dallas hasn’t just added young talent; they’ve strengthened both their present rotation and their long-term outlook in a meaningful way.
