Dallas could eye dynamic scoring guard Tyler Herro to bolster their backcourt. Could the Heat star be the missing piece for the Mavericks?

The Dallas Mavericks are already being floated as a possible fit in one of the more intriguing "what-if" scenarios of the upcoming NBA offseason.

In a recent piece by Sean Deveny of Heavy.com about potential league shakeups, the idea of Tyler Herro landing in Dallas was raised.

The former Kentucky Wildcat has been included in a lot of mock trades where Miami makes a deal with the Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo. But Milwaukee is not the only place that could be a fit for Herro.

After a 2025-26 season where he played in just 33 games, his name has been thrown around a lot, especially with the kind of year that Bam Adebayo had. As a result, the Heat could be willing to move on from Herro.

And that is where the Mavericks could swoop in.

When he has been healthy, Herro has developed into one of the league’s more dynamic guards, capable of creating his own shot and contributing as both a starter and secondary playmaker. His versatility would give Dallas another option in the backcourt and help diversify the offense.

In the 33 games that he played this past season, the All-Star guard averaged a solid 20 points and five rebounds per game. He was also able to do so on 48 percent from the field and 38 percent from deep on just under seven attempts per game from long range.

The Mavericks were without their star guard in Kyrie Irving after he tore his ACL last season, so a lot of the ball-handling duties fell on the shoulders of rookie phenom Cooper Flagg. And while Kyrie could come back and still be good next season, his best years are definitely behind him.

Irving is 34 years old and not getting any younger, while Herro is 26 years old. If Dallas decided to make a move for him, he could be alongside Flagg for years to come.

Miami’s direction will ultimately determine whether Herro is even available, and if he is, the cost would likely be high—especially if the Heat want to include him in a larger deal aimed at landing a superstar.

Even as speculation, the Mavericks’ inclusion in these conversations says something about how the rest of the league views their roster—and the kinds of moves that could come into play if opportunities arise.
