Cooper Flagg's one-of-one Rookie Debut Patch Autograph sold for $8.04 million, setting five records after being pulled from a $515 card break.
Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg's one-of-one Topps Rookie Debut Patch Autograph card sold for $8.04 million early Friday in Fanatics Collect's September Premier Auction. The card drew 83 bids after the auction opened Sept. 10.
Fanatics Collect announced Friday that the sale set five records. No basketball card featuring a single player has sold for more, and no Mavericks card has either. It is also the highest price for a card sold at auction through Fanatics Collect and the highest for any Rookie Debut Patch card.
Only two NBA cards have sold for more. A 2007-08 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Dual Logoman signed by Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant holds the record at $12,932,000.
$515 Break Turned Into an $8.04 Million Card
Jason Williams, a 55-year-old machine shop owner from Clover, South Carolina, consigned the card. On Aug. 10, he paid $515 for the Mavericks slot in a three-box livestream break of 2025-26 Topps Chrome Update Basketball run by RhodyBreakers, the break division of Baseball Cards of Rhode Island in North Kingstown. The redemption for Flagg's card came out of that break.
Williams was watching on his phone from the living room while his 12-year-old got ready for bed, he told CNN's Andy Scholes. He knew he had a big team in that break.
"I was like, 'Hey, we need to put this on the big screen,' and my wife was like, 'OK, whatever, do what you need to do,'" Williams said. "So I put it on."
Flagg's Debut Jersey Patch Became the One-of-One Card
Flagg signed the card July 17 at Fanatics Fest in New York. The patch came from the jersey he wore in the first half of his NBA debut on Oct. 22, 2025, against the San Antonio Spurs. He had 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 125-92 loss. That jersey sold for $1 million at auction in February.
For Williams, the moment he realized the card was his was surreal.
"When it happened, I went to the floor like a baby in the fetal position," Williams explained. "It was just emotional because I knew. I knew what had happened. It took me a few seconds for it to register in my mind, but it was just emotions took over me."
Mavericks Offered Massive Bounty for Flagg Card
Before the card went to auction, the Mavericks offered a bounty package they called "1 of 1 for 32." Two premium lower-level season tickets for 32 years led the list, which also included a signed, game-worn Flagg rookie jersey and a trip to see Dallas play the Boston Celtics. Flagg wears No. 32.
Goldin Auctions founder Ken Goldin offered a $1.5 million cash advance to consign the card with his company. Williams went with Fanatics Collect in August instead, and PSA graded the card a Gem Mint 10 with a 10 for the autograph.
Williams Visited Flagg's Card Shop During Auction
On Sept. 12, Williams attended the opening of Flagg Trading Co., the card shop Flagg co-owns with his cousin, Tyler Flagg, in Bangor, Maine. Bidding had opened two days earlier.
Last season, Flagg was named Rookie of the Year. He started all 70 games he played and averaged 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals while shooting 46.8% from the field.
