Seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry weighed in on Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, and Tony Parker, sharing who he would trust most in a Finals Game 7.
Robert Horry’s career is defined by the biggest moments. A seven-time NBA champion, he knows the weight of Game 7 better than most.
That’s why his latest opinion on his “Big Shot Bob” podcast turned heads when asked to choose between Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, and Tony Parker for a Finals Game 7.
“Start Steph, Kyrie off the bench, Tony? Bye-bye,” Horry said. “If you had to pick those three players to be on your team, even though I love Tony to death, but Kyrie? Better player. Steph? Better player. So, it ain’t no disrespect to Tony. It’s just the truth. I keep it basic, I keep it real.”
There was no debate about Curry, who has cemented himself as one of the two greatest point guards ever. But the comparison between Irving and Parker is trickier — and depends on what you value.
Irving’s defining moment came in 2016, when his three-pointer over Curry in Game 7 of the Finals completed the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 3-1 comeback against Golden State. He finished with 26 points that night and forever etched his name in Finals lore.
Parker, meanwhile, logged Game 7s in both the 2005 and 2013 NBA Finals. The results were forgettable: eight points in the Spurs’ 2005 win over Detroit and 10 points in a 2013 loss to Miami. He went scoreless in the clinching fourth quarter against the Heat.
Accolades paint Parker in a different light. A four-time champion, four-time All-NBA selection and 2007 Finals MVP, Parker’s résumé is steadier than Irving’s. Irving has nine All-Star appearances, but only three All-NBA selections, partly due to injuries that have cut into his seasons.
What Irving brings, though, is dynamism. His creativity, shot-making, and ability to take over a game make him one of the toughest covers in league history. Parker was steadier and more durable, but in a single elimination scenario, Horry's argument leans toward Irving.
For one game, when everything is on the line, his pick is clear.
