Anthony Davis is the best player on the Dallas Mavericks, at least for now. However, as he misses time with injury, his sideline antics are quickly wearing thin on the fanbase, only adding to his trade speculation.
Despite the Dallas Mavericks having much more recent success than their NFL counterpart, the Dallas Cowboys remain king in the Lone Star State. The NFL is by far the most popular league in North America, and America's Team remains the biggest and most valuable, even with its lack of 21st-century hardware.
The quickest way to endear yourself to Dallas fans? Embrace the Cowboys and ride out the highs and lows with Dem Boyz.
Anthony Davis is probably the best athlete Dallas can boast right now. Cooper Flagg and Paige Bucekers are nipping at his heels, but his championship pedigree and runs of dominance have kept him on top, even through recent injuries. Davis missed the Mavericks' most recent game, an overtime win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Even without suiting up, he commited a cardinal sin at the American Airlines Center.
There are worse things he could have worn. A New York Giants jersey, for instance. Maybe a Philadelphia Eagles one, too. However, wearing a Jordan Love jersey in Dallas is a surefire way to burn some bridges.
Davis, who hails from Chicago, has long been a Packers fan. As the Mavericks move past the Nico Harrison regime, Davis has become one of the most popular mock trade subjects in the league. While his talent is undeniable, he doesn't really fit the Mavericks' timeline. Thanks to injuries and his NFL loyalty, he hasn't really emerged as a fan-favorite in Dallas.
For some, his Packers jersey is just the last nail in the coffin.
"Luka would never," posted a fan.
"Overpaid injury prone," summed up another.
Of course, after turning his back on his hometown Bears, Chicago fans don't seem eager to have him back. However, the Bulls haven't had much to boast about since Michael Jordan, so their tune could change quickly if he were to be traded to the Windy City.
While the Cowboys and Packers tied in their lone matchup this season, Green Bay has had a lot to brag about recently. Dallas, of course, hasn't.
Does AD's fashion statement mean he has queltoiy requuested a trade? Is he taking a page out of LeBron James' book and sending subtle messages to fans and ownership? Or was he just supporting his favorite NFL team on gameday? The Packers beat the Giants on Sunday, and the Cowboys lost.
Fans will be the judge of Davis. Action matters more than intent, after all!
