The weather is playing a big factor ahead of the scheduled Tuesday showdown of Dallas at Brooklyn.
Mother nature is threatening the Tuesday Dallas Mavericks at Brooklyn Nets showdown.
An intense winter storm dubbed as a bomb cyclone barreled onto the east coast during the weekend and has blanketed multiple states with snow. The area around Barclays Center already is covered in white while accompanied by strong winds.
Those elements are already reportedly impacting the contest originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
"Following Sunday's loss to the [Atlanta] Hawks, the Nets' plane will be grounded in Atlanta through Monday, according to league sources," Erik Slater of ClutchPoints reported on Monday.
Slater adds: "Brooklyn is planning to fly to New York on Tuesday morning, weather permitting."
The weather calls for clearer skies -- although temperatures will be projected to hit 32 degrees. Airports have already experienced delays in travel.
Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd immediately has anticipated a long travel schedule for him and his team.
"[Monday] is going to be a long day,” Kidd told Mavericks team reporter Eddie Sefko. “We can’t leave until the evening and there’s no guarantee with that. Hopefully we can get out."
He knows the Mavs aren't the only one in this predicament.
"But Brooklyn is in Atlanta and in the same seat as us," Kidd said. "Hopefully there’s a game because I don’t know if we can make up another game on our schedule.”
The last part is most telling for both teams.
The Nets already have the San Antonio Spurs visiting for Thursday. But then Brooklyn heads down to Boston the following night. Dallas, meanwhile, has its own Thursday/Friday back-to-back this week as well -- hosting the Sacramento Kings on Thursday then the Memphis Grizzlies the next night.
Dallas needed to postpone one game previously against the Milwaukee Bucks -- now set for March 31.
Even if the Mavs and Nets play on schedule, this matchup isn't likely to feature top overall pick Cooper Flagg.
The Mavs' No. 1 overall pick of June has sat out the last three games due to a foot injury. He'd share the floor with Nets impact rookies and fellow first rounders Egor Demin and Nolan Traore if Flagg is greenlit to play on Tuesday.
Of course, the current weather conditions will have final say on if both teams play on time.
Brooklyn will aim to shed the memories of their fourth quarter collapse against the Hawks -- which saw Atlanta outscore the Nets 24-2 in the final eight minutes. FanDuel Sportsbook is yet to release the betting odds for Mavs-Nets.
