Nets hit Consecutive Mark in Lopsided Loss to Rockets cover image

Houston became the second straight opponent to hit this feat against Brooklyn.

The Brooklyn Nets' high-powered defensive output has appeared to be left behind in 2025.

Because the Houston Rockets lit up the scoreboard inside the Barclays Center -- hitting a consecutive mark too on the Nets.

Former Brooklyn star Kevin Durant scored 22 points, Amen Thompson finished with 23 to lead the way and Houston steamrolled to a 120-96 rout of Brooklyn.

The Rockets now join the Golden State Warriors in putting 120 on Brooklyn in consecutive games. It's also the first time this season that Brooklyn allowed the same amount of points in two straight contests.

The Nets delivered the league's best defensive output back in December -- allowing only 102.7 points per game at one point. They were also surrendering below 108 points in their previous five games before facing the Warriors.

Houston became the one looking stout on defense -- stealing five Nets passes and blocking seven shots. Reed Sheppard led the charge with three swats. Thompson and Alperen Sengun (20 points) tied for the lead with two steals.

Their defensive effort botted the Nets' starting five.

Ziare Williams elevated to starter with Egor Demin out with a lower back ailment. He led all the starters with 14 points. Noah Clowney and Nic Claxton were the others in double figures -- each hitting 11 points.

Williams rose as a force on the defensive side in snatching five steals. Danny Wolf and Day'Ron Sharpe each grabbed two apiece as Brooklyn finished with 12 steals. Wolf, who started as well, finished with nine points.

How did lead scorer Michael Porter Jr. fare? He wasn't even inside the building due to an illness. Hence the swift starting rotation changes. Even one more rookie earned the start in Drake Powell -- who ended with eight points on the night.

Cam Thomas became the leading scorer for Brooklyn -- dropping 21 points off the bench and through 23 minutes of play. Jalen Wilson added eight points off the bench while Sharpe also scored the same amount. Tyrese Martin and Nolan Traore were the last to score for Brooklyn (three points apiece).

No Nets player reached a double-double on the night. Claxton came close in hauling down eight rebounds. Sharpe pulled down the same amount for his 8-and-8 game. Sharpe even became a key facilitator by dishing out seven assists.

Still, Brooklyn walked into the new year a little depleted roster wise with Demin and Porter out. And now watched another for hit the 120 mark.
