Nets' Jordi Fernandez Drops Bold Message About Future Plans cover image

The Brooklyn head coach fired off a fiery message about how he wants his team to progress forward.

The season immediately became lost for the Brooklyn Nets before the NBA All-Star Game break. Rolling with a youth movement and multiple losing streaks led into the dismal record...and a message about the summer from the head coach.

Jordi Fernandez continues to lead this team amid the pileup of losses -- featuring the Thursday 126-110 loss to the San Antonio Spurs inside Barclays Center.

But he dropped this fiery take for how he wants to finish -- including looking ahead to June, July, etc.

"We have to be competitive. We’re not gonna turn on a switch and all of the sudden we’re gonna be there. It’s gonna be a process," Fernandez said via Erik Slater of ClutchPoints.

Despite the disappointing record including the possibility of landing the top pick in the NBA Draft, Fernandez acknowledged how competitive this team is.

"I like where the group is," Fernandez said. "The group cares, the coaches care, the organization cares."

He also added how the Nets faced a similar predicament before.

"Finding our own wins, we did it last year, we’re gonna do it this year in a different way because it’s a different context," Fernandez stated.

Fans have grown disappointed and restless about the state of the franchise. This fanbase has itched for a return to the postseason since 2022-23 under former head coach Steve Nash.

Fernandez, however, believes his team is in a better spot.

"We really like where we are," he said. "We have a process and a plan in place...It’s very exciting."

Yet he's aware there's a large population of fans who want to see better results than what the 2025-26 team is fielding.

Fernandez, though, knows that the real work will begin after the season...summing it in five words at the end.

"Obviously, I want to win every single game, but playing these 25 to compete and then this summer... Biggest summer of our lives," Fernandez said.

This summer indeed becomes critical for Brooklyn to re-galvanize the fans. Brooklyn could end up selecting No. 1 and taking BYU star AJ Dybantsa. However, Cam Boozer of Duke is viewed as a new Nets fit following his dominance against No. 1 Michigan back on Saturday.

Brooklyn sits at 15-43 overall after the Spurs loss. They now have a back-to-back on Friday against the Boston Celtics on the road.
