Chaney Johnson is officially back with the Brooklyn Nets after signing his two-way qualifying offer. After flashing his potential late last season, he'll get another opportunity to earn a bigger role, beginning with NBA Summer League.

The Brooklyn Nets are bringing back one of their developmental pieces for another season.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, forward Chaney Johnson has signed his one-year, two-way qualifying offer to remain with the Nets. Brooklyn extended Johnson the qualifying offer over the weekend, making him a restricted free agent before he officially accepted the deal on Monday.

By signing the qualifying offer, Johnson returns to Brooklyn after spending the second half of last season with the organization and making the most of his opportunities whenever his number was called.

The 24-year-old appeared in 17 games with the Nets after signing with the team in late December following his release from the Cleveland Cavaliers. In limited NBA action, Johnson averaged 8.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 54.3% from the field in 20.5 minutes per game.

Johnson spent most of the season with the Long Island Nets, where he became one of the team's most reliable contributors. Across 24 G League games, he averaged 14.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists while adding 1.5 steals and 1.0 block per game.

His strongest stretch at the NBA level came late in the season. Johnson scored a career-high 17 points to go along with nine rebounds against the Portland Trail Blazers on March 16 before posting 16 points and 13 rebounds against the Toronto Raptors on April 12.

After one of those performances, Johnson said his mindset was simply staying ready whenever head coach Jordi Fernández called his name.

"It's whatever I could do to help the team win," Johnson said. "I'm just blessed to have the opportunity to play at the highest level of basketball. So, it's whatever coach wants me to do."

Johnson will now head into another season on a two-way contract, allowing him to continue developing between Brooklyn and Long Island while providing the Nets with another familiar option if injuries arise throughout the year.

Before that, he'll get another chance to showcase his game in the NBA Summer League. Johnson is expected to be part of Brooklyn's Summer League roster in Las Vegas, where he'll look to build on the momentum he created at the end of last season.

With another year in the Nets' system and a full offseason with the organization, Johnson will have another opportunity to prove he deserves a longer look at the NBA level after showing encouraging flashes during his first season in Brooklyn.
