Michael Porter Jr. is earning recognition across the NBA, landing on Bleacher Report’s top 30 scorers and top 30 shooters lists ahead of the 2026-27 season. Here’s why the Brooklyn Nets forward made both rankings.
Michael Porter Jr. is coming off a career year with the Brooklyn Nets, and Bleacher Report has recognized his offensive impact heading into the 2026-27 NBA season. The forward landed on the publication's lists of the NBA's top 30 scorers and top 30 shooters, giving Brooklyn another reason to feel good about what he brings to the team.
Porter ranked No. 27 among the league's top scorers and No. 20 among its best shooters. Both lists highlight different strengths in his game, from his ability to put points on the board to the shooting touch that has made him one of the NBA's more dangerous perimeter threats.
His scoring ranking comes after an impressive first season in Brooklyn. Porter averaged 24.2 points per game and knocked down 3.4 three-pointers per contest, taking on a much larger offensive role than he had with the Denver Nuggets. In Denver, he was primarily a catch-and-shoot option alongside Nikola Jokić. With the Nets, he had more opportunities to create his own shot and showed he could handle the added responsibility.
Bleacher Report noted how Porter's game developed as he became more involved in the offense. His outside shooting remained a major strength, but his pull-up jumper and ability to create separation gave him more ways to score. He also became less predictable, forcing defenders to account for more than just his next shot.
That growth matters for a Nets team that will need reliable scoring options throughout the season. Porter has shown he can produce without depending entirely on teammates to create open looks for him, making him a tougher matchup for opposing defenses.
His spot at No. 20 on Bleacher Report's shooters list is worth noting, too. Porter owns career averages of 49.3% from the field and 39.8% from three-point range. His three-point percentage fell to 36.3% in 2025-26, but that came during a season when he was asked to do considerably more with the ball in his hands.
The quality of his attempts helps put that number into perspective. According to Bleacher Report, Porter attempted more tightly contested three-pointers than any other player in the NBA last season. He still converted those shots at a remarkable 41.2% rate, showing how dangerous he can be even when defenders are right in front of him.
For Brooklyn, that shooting ability creates opportunities for the rest of the roster. Defenses have to respect Porter's range, which can open driving lanes for teammates and give the Nets more room to operate offensively. When he is making shots at a high rate, opponents have fewer options for slowing down Brooklyn's attack.
Porter will have to prove he can maintain his production as teams continue to adjust to his expanded role. The Nets will also need him to stay efficient while balancing his own scoring opportunities with the development of their younger players.
Still, making both Bleacher Report rankings is a notable recognition of what Porter accomplished in his first season in Brooklyn. He has already shown he can be more than a complementary shooter, and the Nets will be counting on that scoring ability again in 2026-27.
