The Brooklyn Nets might be ready to deal the scoring guard prior to this season's Feb. 5 trading deadline.

The Brooklyn Nets' front office has plenty of decisions to make before Feb. 5, to put things plainly.

With the immediate futures of key cogs in Brooklyn's system, such as Michael Porter Jr., Nic Claxton and Cam Thomas hanging in the balance, it's more than likely that the latter of the trio will be dealt to a new squad in the coming weeks.

At years old, the 6-foot-4 offensive dynamo has consistently remained a top name in trade rumors despite his inconsistent on-court output.

Thomas has averaged 17.3 points and 3.1 assists while shooting just 43.8% on his two-point attempts and 34.8% on 5.1 three-point tries, though he's rarely been featured in head coach Jordi Fernandez's nightly rotation, a development that's added plenty of fuel to the fire regarding a potential trade.

According to The New York Post's Brian Lewis, all of these factors have signaled that the end is near for Thomas and the Nets' working relationship.

"But eyes should be on Cam Thomas, with every sign pointing toward his time running out in Brooklyn," Lewis wrote Monday night.

"He’s lost his starting job, seen his playing time reduced, and neither situation seems about to change," Lewis continued.

"After their failed contract negotiations this past summer, forget the honeymoon being over. Every sign is pointing toward divorce."

After signing a one-year, $6 million qualifying offer as a restricted free agent to return to the Nets this past summer, Thomas' ability to prove his worth to the organization and increase his trade value have been limited throughout the 2025-26 season.

Whether it be Fernandez's decision to demote him from the starting lineup in favor of rookie guard Egor Dëmin or Thomas' lack of shot-making, many in the NBA media sphere have begun to theorize that his departure from the franchise is finally set to arrive.

It's tough to say whether or not the Nets could receive a desirable package in return for the shoot-first guard, but a contending team desperate enough to add some form of supplementary shooting talent may come prepared with an offer for general manager Sean Marks.

Instantly, a team like the Golden State Warriors comes to mind, especially in the wake of Jimmy Butler's torn ACL diagnosis which was revealed early Tuesday morning by ESPN's Shams Charania.

First-round draft capital might be a stretch for a player of Thomas' value, mostly because you know exactly what you'll be getting out of him on a game-to-game basis.

With that being said, he's also a player who put together a historic run of three consecutive 40-plus point outbursts at just 21 years of age during the 2022-23 season.

His resume speaks for itself as a ridiculously skilled difficult shot-maker, and the Nets will be aiming to extract all of the value they can out of him as the Feb. 5 trade deadline inches closer.
