The Brooklyn Nets will likely continue to dominate the headlines as NBA trade season continues to unfurl in 2025-26.
Several blockbuster trade proposals have already been conceptualized and pushed, concerning the likes of Michael Porter Jr., Nic Claxton and even rising backup big man Day'Ron Sharpe.
With that being said, a gargantuan trade concept recently pushed forth by Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley has the Nets and Golden State Warriors going all-in on a deal including both franchise's biggest trade chips.
In this hypothetical swap, Golden State would bring in Brooklyn's Porter Jr. and Haywood Highsmith in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Buddy Hield, a 2028 top-five protected first-round pick and a 2031 first-rounder with a 21-30 protection.
"The Nets already had Porter and Highsmith salary-dumped onto their laps," Buckley wrote on Christmas Day.
"Being able to now flip them for additional assets would be the kind of great basketball business that every rebuilder should try to broker," Buckley continued.
"Plus, after loading up on playmakers at the draft, Brooklyn could squeeze plenty of juice out of play-finishers like Kuminga, Moody and even Hield (who'd stick around as long as needed to attract a shooting-starved shopper)."
"The real prizes would be the pick and the swap, though, which would rocket in value if Curry doesn't extend his Golden State stay beyond his current contract, which expires after next season."
If the Nets were to come away with a package of Kuminga, Moody and two future firsts, this might be the best outcome from a potential deal with the aging, dynastic Warriors.
Kuminga has been the main target in any talks with the Warriors over the summer and into this season, but also acquiring their No. 14 overall pick from the 2021 NBA Draft in the deal could pay massive dividends to the Nets' three-and-D attack for the foreseeable future.
While Kuminga has essentially been tossed from Golden State's rotation over the past few weeks, Moody has continued to develop nicely, as he's averaging career-bests across the board with 10.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.7 blocks while connecting on 36.9% of his chances from three-point range.
The defensive versatility that a return of both Kuminga and Moody could provide would give Brooklyn's head coach Jordi Fernandez even more chances to flex his imaginative muscle with regard to lineup variations.
As the trade deadline quickly approaches, a deal including Kuminga, Moody and Hield as cap filler should not be thrown to the side.
