Nets GM Sean Marks reveals their strategic approach to the 2026 NBA draft and offseason, eyeing franchise cornerstones with $47 million in cap space.
The 2025-26 NBA season is over for the Brooklyn Nets, and general manager Sean Marks on Wednesday addressed some of the ways the team will look to improve via the NBA draft and how he plans bring in talent in the offseason, given the team's $47 million cap space.
In an end-of-season press conference on Wednesday, Marks said the organization will take every opportunity to land franchise cornerstones through signings, trades, and this year's draft.
"I think it depends a little on what becomes available. You just never know," Marks told reporters. "And I think, again, we've put this Brooklyn Nets team and franchise in a place to be able to be opportunistic."
As of the moment, the Nets and Marks have all of the tools to build a successful team heading into next season. Their projected cap space will play a pivotal role in these player acquisitions through the NBA Draft, free agency signings, and trades.
Moreover, their NBA draft odds give them a 14-percent chance of landing the top pick and a 52.1-percent chance of getting into the top four. This gives the team the opportunity of landing someone like Duke forward Cameron Boozer or BYU big AJ Dybantsa.
Marks outlined that there will be a few considerations when it comes to the Nets letting new players in. A lot of it has to do with a prospect's fit in the team's timeline.
"Does that fit our timeline? Does this particular trade work for us right now? I mean, you can always add talent, but does that talent fit our approach and for the development of these young guys, and fit in with the group that we have?" Marks said. "Those are discussions I look forward to having with Jordi [Fernández] and the rest of the coaching staff."
The Nets may have all the money in the association, but the tides of their fate in the association will not change unless they spend on a winning culture. They have not been in the postseason since head coach Jacque Vaughn led the team to a first-round exit in 2023.
Obviously, there are still shadows of doubt cast all over this Nets organization after their records in the past few years. From now on, it looks like all fans can do is trust the words of the front office.
