Frustrated by losing seasons and organizational instability, Brooklyn fans face a tempting cross-town jump as Jalen Brunson’s surging Knicks transform New York into a winner’s circle.

Some Brooklyn Nets fans may be on their way to a different team soon, possibly the other one in New York.

The Nets and New York Knicks are both in New York, but other than that, they don't have a lot in common. There could be a few reasons why a fan would want to change teams. It could be because they moved to that city. After all, their main team traded away a favorite player because of issues with the organization and a plethora of other reasons.

Sometimes, fans want something new and a change of scenery. Often it's the same with professional athletes. But in this case, the Nets fans may be moving on to the team not too far away in the city, the New York Knicks. Here are some reasons why the Nets fan may switch allegiance to the Knicks.

Last Few Seasons

Over the last few seasons, there has been a major discrepancy between the two teams in the win column. Throughout the last five seasons, Brooklyn has totaled 167 regular-season wins while losing 243. The Nets haven't achieved over 30 games in two years. On the other hand, the Knicks have done well, especially since they got Jalen Brunson via free agency in 2022. Since 2022, New York has won 187 regular-season games and, in addition, 38 playoff wins.

There's a clear difference in both organizations from roster to how they are run. The way the Nets have operated as of late hasn't led to wins, and for the Knicks, it has. There have been times where the Nets have shown they can compete well, getting to the playoffs in 2022 and 2023, but they were swept both times by the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers, respectively. If the goal is to be part of a winning team, then that's even more of a reason for fans to differentiate.

Championship History

The Nets haven't won an NBA championship since joining the association in 1976. But they did win an ABA championship prior to that in 1974 and 1976, before the merger. They also went to the NBA finals in 2002 and 2003 but lost to the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs. New York hadn't won an NBA Finals since 1973 until this season, when they defeated the San Antonio Spurs in five games in 2026.

Conclusion

The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets have had success as franchises overall, but New York is the superior organization. Sports fans in New York are known to be loyal to their teams, but for the Nets, it could change.
