The Brooklyn Nets rose as a popular contender to make a trade deal before Feb. 5.
But now the franchise has between Monday night and before Thursday afternoon to pull off a swap.
Michael Porter Jr. is labeled the most attractive member of the Nets to trade for. Rightfully so considering his impact on the scoring end plus owning a past NBA Finals ring with the Denver Nuggets.
Cam Thomas is one more hearing trade chatter -- who brings his own intrigue as a past 20-point scorer. Same with top big Nic Claxton amid the market.
But will the Nets pull off a trade deal or have things simmered inside Brooklyn's front office? Here's what we're learning...
Giannis Antetokounmpo to Brooklyn Losing Ground
Looks like there'll be no "Greek Freak" inside the Barclays Center.
Nets insider for the New York Post Brian Lewis shared this update on Monday evening.
"Giannis Antetokounmpo will be the most sought-after player at Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. But sources told The Post that — contrary to reports — the Nets haven’t called Milwaukee about the Greek superstar," Lewis wrote.
There was once past interest in the NBA Finals winner.
"For years, Brooklyn general manager Sean Marks hoarded assets in case Antetokounmpo ever decided he wanted to leave Milwaukee and was made available," Lewis said. "Now that the Nets committed to a tank before last season, the two-time MVP is finally open to bolting the Bucks."
But again, Antetokounmpo-to-Brooklyn has lost complete ground.
Claxton, Thomas Packaged Deal in the Works?
To reiterate, MPJ is one of the big stars attached to league trade chatter ahead of Thursday.
However, he's not considered a target for one Eastern Conference rival according to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel. Claxton's name is linked along with another member of the Nets not named Porter or Thomas.
Siegel points out Day'Ron Sharpe and Claxton as remaining Boston Celtics possibilities. That idea additionally involves Daniel Gafford (Dallas Mavericks) and Yvesi Missi (New Orleans Pelicans).
"Gafford, Missi, Day'Ron Sharpe, and Nic Claxton are all players the Celtics have been linked to, yet [Anfernee] Simons would not necessarily need to be included for either Missi or Sharpe," Siegel wrote.
Boston appears to be seeking some big man help -- hence how the 6-foot-11 Claxton entered the picture. This is a deal worth monitoring if you're a Nets fan.
Brooklyn returns to action on Tuesday night in hosting the Los Angeles Lakers.
