As draft buzz intensifies, the Nets are narrowing their focus on Louisville’s explosive playmaker after high-profile workout cancellations and a reported secret scouting trip to Orlando.
With the plethora of talented backcourts projected to be taken in the back-half of the 2026 NBA Draft lottery, the Brooklyn Nets have a big choice to make.
Players like Arkansas' Darius Acuff Jr., Houston's Kingston Flemings, Louisville's Mikel Brown Jr., and Illinois' Keaton Wagler have all made strong cases to be taken after the first four presumed top picks.
However, one name has seemingly gained momentum at the right time - Brown.
"This young man [Brown} has now moved his name up and the momentum is on his side, to potentially be the No. 5 pick in this draft and leapfrog the other three." ESPN College Basketball Analyst Sean Farham said on Friday.
Farnham went on to show various highlights from Brown's lone collegiate season, displaying his impressive skillset.
I recently reported on Brown's camp shutting down workouts with various teams, which usually indicates a draft promise.
The Los Angeles Clippers, who pick just before the Nets, are one team who reportedly feels strongly about the standout Cardinal, but Brooklyn has made a lot push as well.
According to NBA/Brooklyn Nets reporter Erik Slater, Brooklyn officials recently traveled to Orlando to visit Brown in his hometown.
To add to the mystique, both Wagler and Flemings canceled their scheduled workouts with the Nets this week, which likely means the front office is zeroing in on top candidates.
Brown, who was Louisville’s second leading scorer with an average of 18.2 points per game, earned Third Team All-ACC honors despite missing time, showing flashes of elite point guard play.
The Nets could definitely benefit from Brown's athletic ability and playmaking, as the 6-foot-5 lead guard has the ability to create for himself and his teammates.
While Brooklyn's recent workouts have highlighted front court players like Tennessee's Nate Ament and the NBL's Karim Lopez, Brown remains more NBA-ready than both.
In a 40-point blowout win over ACC-rival NC State, Brown tied a program-record with 45 points, shooting over 60-percent from the field and 3-point range.
Brown seemingly couldn't miss from deep, knocking down 10-of-16 long balls and knocking down all seven of his free throws.
Getting to the free-throw line was a big weapon for the standout freshman, as Brown frequently found himself drawing contact on explosive finishes.
While the Clippers may end up drafting Brown before Brooklyn has a chance, the 6-foot-5 guard certainly has the potential to be an elite lead guard at the next level.
