The Brooklyn Nets parted ways with Cam Thomas after failing to find a trade suitor for him.
Sounds like the breakup is still on his mind -- judging by his latest words.
Thomas has since joined the Milwaukee Bucks after clearing the waivers. He's winning over the "Deer District" now -- dropping 27 points in his latest game on Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans in helping lead the 139-118 romp.
He joined Ryan Rollins in leading the way in scoring...but appeared to also take a dig at his former employer. Here's what Thomas said after the 21-point rout with reporters.
"Everybody had the right mindset and everybody came locked in. Now it's winning time. We've got to string together wins. I mean...that's what you live for when you play in the NBA, playing meaningful basketball. That's what I missed playing for a long time -- playing meaningful basketball and playing winning basketball," Thomas said.
Yikes...and that's not all from Thomas either.
"I'm just happy to be here. And happy to win with the guys for sure," Thomas added. "But it's winning time. So we've got to string together some more wins the best way we can and figure it out."
Sounds like Thomas is doing just fine in the Deer City compared to what's going on in the New York region.
Thomas at one point established himself as the second-leading scorer next to Michael Porter Jr. He even averaged more than 21 points a night, which was still before his hamstring injury.
But in his absence, Egor Demin stepped into the second-leading scorer role by emerging as the newest sharpshooter. Demin and fellow rookie Nolan Traore has since flashed their potential together -- fueling the new Nets movement moving forward.
Thomas became more lost in the shuffle in Brooklyn and eventually, starting hearing more trade chatter. However, again, multiple teams never fell through for the veteran and Porter became the more talked-about trade candidate on Brooklyn's side.
Porter eventually stayed and sounds all in on the Nets' vision of adding draft capital and going younger. Thomas, meanwhile, has landed with a team that still envisions one more playoff run despite age and its own star, Giannis Antetokounmpo, once hearing trade chatter.
But now, his words after the Pelicans trouncing sounds like a brand new swipe at Brooklyn.
