Egor Dëmin is putting in the work ahead of his sophomore season. The Nets guard gave fans an inside look at his intense offseason training and the mindset driving his push for a bigger Year 2.
Egor Dëmin’s offseason has been anything but quiet.
The Brooklyn Nets guard gave fans an inside look at his summer training in his latest YouTube video, “THE OFF-SEASON,” showing some of the work he has put in as he gets ready for his second NBA season.
The video features early-morning workouts, time in the gym with other players, and plenty of preparation away from the court. Dëmin also talked about the mindset he has taken into the summer and what he believes he needs to do to keep getting better.
“The off-season has been very intense,” Dëmin said at the start of the video. “A lot of practice, some games, a lot of fun.”
This summer has been a little different for Dëmin. He is no longer heading into his first NBA season and now has a full year of experience to build on.
“It’s just been cool to do a second summer as an NBA player,” Dëmin said.
A major part of Dëmin’s offseason has been his approach to each workout. Instead of worrying about how everything looks or focusing only on the results, he wants to make sure he is giving his best effort every day.
“In the summer, the effort beats the success or the season to be successful,” Dëmin said.
That approach starts early. Dëmin showed a 7 a.m. workout during the video, giving fans a look at just how much work is going into his preparation before the season begins.
“No matter where I’m going to be and who I’m working out with or how long the workout is or where it is, how can I put as much effort as I can without really worrying about how good it’s looking?” Dëmin said.
Dëmin also took some time to recognize Zach Gonzalez, who has been working with him throughout the offseason. He said Gonzalez has been in the gym with him every day and has played an important role in helping him get the most out of his workouts.
The work has also gone beyond individual development.
Dëmin talked about working with other players and finding the right balance between pushing each other on the court and enjoying the time spent together. For him, building those relationships is another important part of getting ready for the season.
“I think the big part of our work has been that the more successful we are, the harder it is and the more stressful it is to work on certain things because you always raise your standard,” Dëmin said. “We are always trying to raise the bar of success.”
Dëmin knows the offseason isn't just about getting stronger or improving his game physically, either.
He spoke about the mental side of basketball and the importance of enjoying life outside of the gym. Finding that balance, he believes, can help him get more out of all the work he is putting in.
“It’s not just the physical part and just the body, but a lot of it is the mind,” Dëmin said. “Enjoy the moment outside of the actual work.”
Dëmin also credited the people around him for helping him throughout the summer. He said there is a group of people working behind the scenes to help him be as efficient, successful, and happy as possible.
His teammates have been an important part of that as well.
Dëmin said the group has spent time learning from one another and figuring out how they can help each other on the court. With the Nets preparing for the upcoming season, he believes those relationships can become even more important.
“I think we’ve been pretty successful this summer,” Dëmin said. “We will be even more successful on building relationships before the season starts.”
The video gives Nets fans a closer look at what Dëmin’s summer has looked like as he prepares for Year 2 in Brooklyn.
After getting his first taste of NBA basketball last season, Dëmin is heading into his sophomore campaign with another summer of training and experience behind him. Now, he is focused on putting all of that work to use once the season gets underway.
If his offseason is any indication, Dëmin is ready to keep pushing himself when he gets back on the court.
