Mikel Brown Jr. may have only received one vote, but it came with plenty of significance. An ESPN insider believes the Nets rookie has one of the highest long-term ceilings in the 2026 NBA Draft class.
Mikel Brown Jr. has given Brooklyn Nets fans plenty to be excited about since the team selected him No. 6 overall in the 2026 NBA Draft. Now, an ESPN insider has offered an early endorsement of just how high Brown's ceiling could be.
In ESPN's latest NBA Summer Forecast, NBA insiders were asked which lottery pick has the highest long-term ceiling.
AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 overall pick by the Washington Wizards, led the voting with six votes. Darryn Peterson, selected No. 2 by the Utah Jazz, received three votes, while Chicago Bulls forward Caleb Wilson received two.
Brown was the only player outside of the top four picks to receive a vote.
For the Nets, that's an encouraging sign. Brown was the sixth player selected in the draft, but at least one ESPN insider already believes his long-term potential belongs in the conversation with the very top players from this class.
There was plenty to like from Brown during Summer League, too.
The rookie got his first taste of professional basketball and showed flashes of the scoring and playmaking ability that made him such an intriguing prospect. He averaged 15 points, four assists and 1.2 steals in 21.7 minutes per game, while scoring 45 points on 10-for-16 shooting from three-point range across the two Summer League events.
Brown also showed an ability to create his own shot while making plays for teammates. That combination could become especially important as he continues developing into an NBA point guard.
The Nets are in the middle of a rebuild, so Brown should have plenty of opportunities to develop. Brooklyn doesn't need him to become a star overnight. Instead, the Nets can give him the time and freedom to figure things out while gradually taking on a larger role.
That's part of what makes Brown such an interesting prospect.
Being selected No. 6 overall comes with expectations, but Brown doesn't need to immediately become one of the best rookies in the league for the pick to look like a success. The more important question is what he can develop into over the next few seasons.
If his scoring and playmaking continue to develop, Brown has a chance to become much more than just a solid starting guard for Brooklyn.
ESPN's forecast provides an early indication that others around the league see that potential, too. Brown may have only received one vote, but he was the only player outside the top four picks to get one.
For a Nets team looking for its next core pieces, having an ESPN insider view Brown as one of the players with the highest long-term ceilings in the 2026 draft class is certainly worth paying attention to.
