The Brooklyn Nets picked up their first victory of the season on the road against the Indiana Pacers for the second-straight season, pulling out a win with balanced scoring. Heading into Monday's matchup with the New York Knicks, the team has some good momentum.
The Brooklyn Nets broke through for their first victory of the young NBA season on Sunday night, knocking off the Indiana Pacers 98-90 on the road.
The forward duo of Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle led the way with 23 and 20 points respectively, knocking down seven 3-pointers combined.
Porter got going early, hitting two long balls from the corner in the first few minutes of the game, and continuing to impress with his shot-making.
The former NBA champion with the Denver Nuggets also hauled in nine rebounds and added three assists, showing his continued dedication to becoming a more-versatile player.
Randle also filled up the stat sheet, adding six assists, five rebounds, and two steals to his line.
He found success getting downhill, adding six points at the charity stripe and using his physicality to attack and find teammates to pass out to.
The center tandem of Moritz Wagner and Day'Ron Sharpe had their best dual performance of the year, with Wagner providing a big offensive boost off the bench.
Wagner, the longtime Orlando Magic big man, made his first four shot attempts, including a 3-pointer, tallying ten points in the first half.
To this point, the Wagner signing in free agency has been a home run, as he is averaging over 11 points per game on 55.6% shooting from the field (18th in NBA).
Wagner added another four points in the second half, giving him a fourth-straight outing of at least 13 points.
Sharpe, who has posted underwhelming numbers in his early days as a full-time starter, recorded his first double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and bringing in 13 rebounds.
The former North Carolina standout also made a 3-pointer, as the Brooklyn front court continues to add a new level of spacing to the offense.
Brooklyn led 43-40 at the halftime break, and was able to maintain the lead entering the fourth quarter.
Pacers point guard Andrew Nembhard got going from distance in the fourth, but it was too little, too late to mount a comeback.
With head coach Jordi Fernández finally getting the monkey off his back and picking up a win, the Nets are right back in action on Monday night against the New York Knicks.
The reigning NBA champions have gotten off to a slow start, sitting at 2-4, but have won two of their last three and remain one of the strongest units in the NBA.
The Nets look to win the in-state battle on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
