Dion Brown built a reputation as one of college basketball's best glue guys. Now, the versatile guard will look to turn that all-around game into an NBA opportunity with the Brooklyn Nets.

After a productive four-year college career that took him through three different programs, Dion Brown is hoping to turn his all-around game into an opportunity with the Brooklyn Nets organization.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard joins Brooklyn's Summer League roster after going undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft. Known for his high motor, defensive versatility and efficient off-ball play, Brown will compete for a training camp spot and could begin his professional career with the Long Island Nets.

College Career

Brown began his collegiate career at UMBC, where he spent his first two seasons steadily improving into one of the America East Conference's top players. His breakout campaign came as a sophomore during the 2023-24 season, when he averaged 19.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.5 blocks in 32.3 minutes per game while shooting 50.6 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from three. His performance earned him First Team All-America East honors and established him as one of the conference's premier two-way players.

Following that season, Brown transferred to Boston College for his junior year before making one final move to Saint Louis as a senior. With the Billikens, he averaged 11.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting an efficient 62 percent from the field and 40 percent from three. He also earned Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team honors and helped lead Saint Louis to a 29-6 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Professional Outlook

Brown went undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft before signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the Brooklyn Nets. Summer League will be Brown's first opportunity to show he belongs at the professional level as he competes for a training camp invite, a possible two-way contract, or a spot with the Long Island Nets.

Although Brown is already 23 years old, he enters the professional ranks with four years of college experience and a well-rounded skill set that could make him an intriguing developmental piece.

Scouting Report

Brown's biggest strength is his versatility.

Despite standing just 6-foot-3, he's an outstanding rebounder for his position thanks to his strength, effort and instincts. He consistently crashes the glass, plays with a high motor and makes winning plays that don't always show up in the box score.

Brown does much of his damage without the ball in his hands. He's an elite cutter who times his movements well, finishes through contact, and ranked among the nation's most efficient non-big finishers at the rim during his senior season. He also developed into a reliable three-point shooter over the course of his college career, knocking down 40 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc during his final season at Saint Louis.

Brown is also a capable secondary playmaker who keeps the offense moving and can attack closeouts, but he isn't a true point guard and is unlikely to be asked to run an offense full-time. On the defensive end, Brown plays bigger than his size. He competes on every possession, isn't afraid to match up with bigger players, and consistently makes hustle plays, although he can occasionally get overaggressive.

How He Fits With Brooklyn

Brown isn't likely to be a high-usage scorer, but that's not what Brooklyn would be asking of him. His ability to defend, rebound, cut to the basket, and knock down open shots gives him a chance to earn a role as a complementary piece.

If he doesn't crack the NBA roster right away, he projects as a strong candidate to spend the season with the Long Island Nets, where Brooklyn can continue developing him after signing him to an Exhibit 10 contract. A strong Summer League showing would only strengthen his case for remaining in the organization beyond training camp.
