Hunter Sallis went from struggling to find minutes at Gonzaga to becoming one of the ACC's top scorers at Wake Forest. Now, the athletic guard is looking to earn another NBA opportunity with the Brooklyn Nets in Summer League.

After breaking out during his final two seasons at Wake Forest, Hunter Sallis is looking to earn another NBA opportunity with the Brooklyn Nets in the Summer League.

The 6-foot-4 guard enters Las Vegas after spending last season between the Philadelphia 76ers and the San Diego Clippers of the NBA G League. A former five-star recruit, Sallis has developed into an athletic scoring guard with intriguing two-way potential.

College Career

Sallis began his collegiate career at Gonzaga, where he spent two seasons coming off the bench on talented Bulldogs teams. He averaged 4.3 points as a freshman and 4.5 points as a sophomore before transferring to Wake Forest in search of a larger role.

The move proved to be exactly what he needed.

Sallis quickly became the focal point of Wake Forest's offense after playing a complementary role at Gonzaga. With more responsibility and the ball in his hands, he was finally able to showcase the scoring ability that made him one of the nation's top high school recruits.

As a junior, Sallis averaged 18.0 points per game and earned First Team All-ACC honors. He followed that up with another impressive season as a senior, averaging 18.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.2 steals while shooting 45.7 percent from the field in 32 starts. He once again earned First Team All-ACC honors, establishing himself as one of the conference's top guards.

Professional Experience

Despite his strong finish to his college career, Sallis went undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft before signing a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.

He appeared in seven games for Philadelphia before being waived in December and joining the San Diego Clippers, the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Clippers.

In 28 G League games, Sallis averaged 14.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steal while shooting 49.3 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from three. His production in the G League helped keep him on NBA radars, showing he could continue scoring efficiently against professional competition.

Scouting Report

Sallis' biggest strength is his ability to create his own offense.

He's an explosive athlete with a quick first step, a nearly 6-foot-10 wingspan, and the ability to score at all three levels. He's at his best with the ball in his hands, using his athleticism and body control to create shots off the dribble, attack the basket, and score in the mid-range. Defensively, his length and lateral quickness give him the versatility to defend either guard spot while disrupting passing lanes and creating turnovers.

The biggest questions surround his consistency. His three-point shot has fluctuated throughout his college career, and he's still adding strength, which can impact both his finishing through contact and his defense against more physical players. Improving as a playmaker and decision-maker will also be important as he continues to develop.

How He Fits with Brooklyn

Sallis is one of several young guards looking to make an impression with Brooklyn this summer, but his ability to create his own shot could help him stand out. With several players competing for future opportunities, Summer League gives him a chance to separate himself by showing he can contribute on both ends of the floor.

With the Nets continuing to prioritize player development, he'll have the opportunity to showcase his scoring ability, defensive versatility, and athleticism against NBA-level competition. If he performs well, Sallis could earn another two-way opportunity somewhere in the league. Otherwise, he could become a strong candidate to join the Long Island Nets, where he'd have the opportunity to continue developing within Brooklyn's system.
