Michael Porter Jr. opened up about his personal life on the Girls, Disrupted podcast, revealing how he handled having five exes at Michael Rubin’s White Party and sharing his surprising timeline for retirement.
Michael Porter Jr. is entering an important stage of his NBA career, but the Brooklyn Nets forward made it clear recently that basketball is not the only thing on his mind.
During an appearance on the Girls, Disrupted podcast, Porter opened up about his dating life, his desire to eventually start a family and how much longer he actually sees himself playing basketball.
One of the more entertaining moments came when Porter was asked about attending Michael Rubin's annual White Party over the Fourth of July weekend.
Porter revealed that five of his exes were at the same party, creating an awkward situation for the Nets star.
“I had like five of my exes at Rubin's all White,” Porter said. “It was hectic in there for me.”
Porter admitted that having so many former romantic interests under the same roof meant he had to be careful about how he handled the night.
“Five is crazy with me,” Porter joked before adding that having that many exes at the same venue was “crazy” and that he “had to navigate a lot” that night.
Despite the potentially awkward circumstances, Porter said he ultimately decided to keep to himself.
“I decided to just do my thing and stay out the way,” he said.
The conversation eventually shifted toward Porter's approach to relationships. He acknowledged that he can take his time before putting an official label on a relationship and admitted that he enjoys the talking stage.
“I'll take a while to put a label on it,” Porter said. He later described the talking stage as his favorite part of dating and said he enjoys a “situationship.”
However, Porter suggested that his priorities are changing as he gets older. He spoke openly about wanting to have children and eventually build a family.
That desire appears to be a big reason why Porter is already thinking about life after basketball.
“When we start having kids, I don't want other people really raising my kids,” Porter said. He then revealed that he doesn't want to continue playing for another decade and would ideally be finished within the next several years.
“I don't want to play basketball for 10 more years. I want to be done in the next five, six years,” Porter said. He added that he would be comfortable spending more time at home because he wants to be involved in raising his children.
That timeline is particularly notable considering Porter is only 28 years old and is coming off a season in which he emerged as a major offensive piece for Brooklyn.
Porter has already experienced plenty of twists and turns throughout his NBA career, including significant injuries early in his career, a championship run with the Denver Nuggets and his eventual move to Brooklyn.
His comments made it clear that Porter is already thinking about what comes next.
Porter also made it clear that he takes the idea of having children seriously. He said he wants to make sure the person he eventually has children with is someone who shares his values and would be a good role model for their kids.
For now, Porter is still focused on his NBA career, but his appearance on Girls, Disrupted gave fans a glimpse at what he wants his life to look like away from the court.
Between navigating five exes at the same party, discussing his approach to relationships and revealing that he could see himself retiring from basketball within the next five or six years, Porter gave fans plenty to talk about, both on and off the court.
