Brooklyn is altering the roster before returning from Christmas time off. Including adding a versatile addition.

The Brooklyn Nets installed roster changes on the day after Christmas. Including officially adding a versatile 6-foot-7 swingman.

That player is Chaney Johnson, with the franchise formally announcing his addition Friday. Johnson agreed to a two-way contract -- meaning he can bounce between the Nets and the G-League.

Johnson arrives via the Cleveland Charge -- where he averaged 12.8 points per game. He also grabbed 5.4 rebounds a game while dishing out 1.9 assists. Johnson grabbed 1.4 steals and made 1.1 blocks per game in the G-League. Though he 's best known for producing three consecutive 20-point outings in early November.

He'll be adding to the SEC representation on the 2025-26 Nets roster. Johnson starred for Auburn before going undrafted this past June. He gave legendary head coach Bruce Pearl some versatility with hitting seven points a night. Plus brough down 4.2 rebounds per game facing the SEC gauntlet. He went on to experience the Final Four alongside Houston, Florida and Duke.

He joins Nic Claxton (Georgia), Noah Clowney (Alabama), Michael Porter Jr. (Missouri), and Cam Thomas (LSU) as the SEC talent playing for head coach Jordi Fernandez in Brooklyn.

Speaking of the latter veteran, Thomas is on his way back into the lineup. The Nets and Fernandez revealed that the guard is on his way back from his lengthy hamstring injury.

Thomas hit 21.4 points per game before the ailment. Although he pulled off the mark in 10 games. Thomas since witnessed the rookie class step up in his absence -- more so Egor Demin who catapulted to starter. Nolan Traore and Danny Wolf are two more earning big minutes for Brooklyn. Drake Powell is one more who's received playing time under Hernandez.

But Thomas still provides a valuable shooting presence on the floor alongside the aspiring NBA All-Star Porter Jr. -- who leads the team in scoring. Thomas can ignite the offense and the scoring even further with his expected return on Saturday.

Brooklyn has gone 6-3 overall in the month of December. They recently took down the Philadelphia 76ers -- handing Tyrese Maxey one of his worst shooting nights

The Nets get the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road for Saturday. Brooklyn will aim to reach 10 wins finally this season.
