The Brooklyn Nets' new-look forward duo is yet to hit their stride, with Julius Randle struggling and Michael Porter Jr. dropping his scoring average slightly. As the season unfolds, keep an eye on both players as potential trade targets.
The Brooklyn Nets have gotten off to another slow start to begin the season, sitting at 1-6 through their first seven games.
Heading into November, the team will be getting healthier, with Mikel Brown Jr. continuing to pick up minutes, but Egor Dëmin is sidelined and the team is still trying to gel.
On Tuesday, Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer reported that the front office is taking calls on the team's two top players, Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle.
Porter has gotten off to a strong start in his second season with Brooklyn, while Randle is still trying to find his groove on his new squad.
Randle remains the more-likely player to be moved, as he has really struggled to start the season, and is making more than $33 million.
Over his past five games, Randle is shooting just 26-for-75 from the field, while posting a 22-21 assist-to-turnover ratio.
The Nets continue to lean on Randle to be a primary ball handler, especially with Dëmin sidelined, but the former NBA All-Star has been off-target from the perimeter, while also missing uncanny shots at the rim.
In Randle's last time out, he faced off with the New York Knicks, who he played for from 2019-2024.
He scored 21 points, adding a season-high 11 rebounds, but struggled mightily from the field, shooting 5-for-16 overall and 0-for-4 from 3-point range.
Teams have continued to give Randle space on the catch, while loading up on his drive and forcing him into tough looks on the interior.
The Knicks did a good job of limiting Randle as a playmaker as well, holding him to a season-low two assists.
Porter, on the other hand, is posting very similar numbers to last season, but has less usage and shot attempts.
Against the Knicks, the former five-star high school recruit reached a new milestone, joining Luka Dončić, James Harden, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Lauri Markkanen as one of six players with over 7,000 points, 2,500 rebounds and 1,000 3-pointers made in their careers.
Porter has had some big days from distance to start the season, making six 3-pointers against the Boston Celtics and five long balls against the Charlotte Hornets.
He has also looked more-engaged on the defensive end, averaging a career-high 1.6 steals per game.
Throughout the offseason, Porter was engaged in negotiations regarding a potential extension with the Nets, but failed to find common ground.
As the season unfold, Porter is looking to earn the front office's trust by becoming a more well-rounded player, but he remains a player who could also be coveted by a contending team.
The Nets are back in action Wednesday night against the Hornets, looking to avenge their season-opening loss.
