The Charlotte Hornets sent over a draft pick to the Miami Heat to settle a dispute.

The Charlotte Hornets settled a dispute with the Miami Heat by sending over a 2026 second-round draft pick on Monday for the NBA and federal investigations of Terry Rozier over an alleged gambled conspiracy that took place during the teams’ trade in the 2025 NBA season. Per ESPN, the draft pick will be the more favorable one between the Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets’ second-round selections. It was an unprecedented situation that NBA commissioner Adam Silver acknowledged in December when considering some sort of "satisfactory relief" for the Heat due to Rozier’s inability to play.

It’s compounded by the fact that Rozier has a considerable 17 percent cap hit for Miami with his $26.6 million salary, in addition to the draft pick owed to the Hornets – a first rounder in either 2027 or 2028 – to fulfill the terms of the trade. Rozier pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges of wire fraud and money laundering stemming from 2023, when federal prosecutors allege that he alerted an associate that he would remove himself from a contest in March while in Charlotte. His associate allegedly then sold that info to gamblers who bet more than $200k on the under for Rozier’s statistics in that game.
