Could Anthony Davis’ Future Be With Dallas Mavericks After All? cover image

Despite rumors of the Dallas Mavericks shopping around Anthony Davis for a potential trade, the star could likely remain where he's at.

The thought was that the Dallas Mavericks would look to move on from Anthony Davis at the trade deadline and focus on a young core around franchise star Cooper Flagg. The compounding issue of him being older and consistently injured is that it makes it difficult to imagine a worthy haul that would be impactful enough to make a difference in the future around Flagg. But he doesn’t fit their timeline and there were thoughts that he could rehab on a contending team and come back for the postseason. However, does Davis want out?

It seems like the star is content in Dallas, and after being suddenly shipped to the Mavs from the Los Angeles Lakers as part of the trade package for Luka Doncic last February, he may prefer to find some stability in Dallas. While he’s eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension in August, he certainly won’t be offered that much. NBA insider Marc Stein reports that he believes he prefers to stay where he’s at.

Here is the full story from Mavs Roundtable writer Jonah Kubicek on the latest around Davis and how he might fit into a Flagg-led future.

Stein also reported that trade interest in Davis was a bit overblown, and that his injury put talks at a bit of a standstill. The 33-year-old is expected to be sidelined until March, and given his history, there’s no guarantee he’ll last the remainder of the season for a contender willing to trade parts back. It will be an interesting situation to watch develop as the Feb. 5 deadline draws closer.
