Jason Kidd is out in Dallas as the Mavericks look to turn the page from a tumultuous run of seasons with new team president Masai Ujiri leading the rebuild.

It did not take long for new Dallas Mavericks team president Masai Ujiri to shake things up.

For more on the move and what could be next for the Mavericks, Mavs Roundtable writer Nathan Karseno has the latest.

While the move wass not a total shock considering the Mavs' circumstances, the timing of the announcement (one hour before the Eastern Conference Finals tipped off) took many by surprise.

The Mavericks are coming off of a 26-56 season, one marred  still by criticism and the ugly shadow of poor decision-making that led to the dismissal of former general manager Nico Harrison in November, less than a month after the season began.

Over a year ago, Harrison's decision to trade away star player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers began a downward spiral for the franchise which had just come off of an NBA Finals appearance and had made four postseason runs since the 2019-20 season.

However, after Harrison was dismissed, it was clear that the organization would soon look to pursue a new path forward.

After landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and selecting star player Cooper Flagg, securing another top-10 selection in the upcoming selection process and hiring a new team president to lead the way, it felt like a change at head coach could be on the horizon.

Now, with Kidd out in what sounds an awful lot like a power struggle, the Mavericks will seek their next lead coach, standard-bearer and culture-builder with a young roster and potential star talent on the rise.

Dallas shouldn't have much trouble courting a new head coach target with familiar faces such as Sean Sweeney and Frank Vogel likely to garner consideration along with big fish like former Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan.
