The superstar playmaker transitions into a floor general role in Philadelphia, surrounded by the elite spacing and perimeter sharpshooters he lacked during some notable years in Los Angeles.
After making his decision to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, superstar LeBron Jones is in line to see a wish he made back in 2022 finally come true.
With James embracing more of a floor general role with the Sixers, Philadelphia will get a chance to put shooters around him and allow the playmaking star forward to orchestrate an offense that wins with spacing and outside scoring at the forefront.
76ers Roundtable writer J'Mar Smith broke down his thoughts on the role, which resembles that which James held year ago with the Los Angeles Lakers in a year where he lead the league in assists.
That year was the 2019-2020 season. Just two years later, James famously called to task the Lakers' roster for no longer having the floor spacing or outside shooting necessary to win games. The Lakers' roster in 2022 had good shooters in line, but tough shooting displays cost the team games early in the season, leading to the star's frustration.
The same roster still made it to the Western Conference Championships that season, only to be swept by the Denver Nuggets.
In Philadelphia, James should be starving for shooting support in his expected point guard-like role. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Dean Wade, as Smith highlighted in his story, have 3-and-D capabilities Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown can both provide shooting and spacing contributions of their own.
The role should allow for quite a bit of freedom for James to help pioneer an eclectic and aggressive offense under his tutelage.
Head coach Nick Nurse is known for using a variety of lineups, With the ball in James' hands coming down the court, the Sixers' options just got more threatening.
