There are certainly more boring losses than others, and for Washington Wizards fans, the team’s fifth consecutive loss came with some chaos. The 123-118 loss to the Houston Rockets started on a high note, with two-way addition Julian Reese making his first NBA career start for the Wizards and making history as a rookie on the team doing so. Then things got a bit hectic in the final three minutes of the third quarter during a confrontation between Washington’s Jamir Watkins and Rockets’ Tari Eason, which led to a stoppage in play. In addition, it led to an ejection for Trae Young off the bench ahead of his first official start with the team on Thursday.
Young left the bench and came onto the court to complain to an official during the conformation that saw Eason also get ejected with a second technical foul, while Watkins also incurred a technical. It was a bit of an untimely ejection, though it doesn’t matter much, as Young had just announced hours prior via his social media that he was making his official team debut on Thursday at home against the Utah Jazz.
Here is the full story from Wizards Roundtable writer Ahmed Ghafir on the eventual night that eventually ended in yet another loss.
Thursday will mark Young’s first action since Dec. 27 as he’s been recovering from MCL and right quad injuries. Coach Brian Keefe anticipates that Young will play around 17 to 20 minutes in the four-time All-Star’s debut with the team.
