AJ Dybantsa had 23 points and seven rebounds as Washington beat Sacramento 104-85 for a 2-0 summer league start.
If Sunday night was the last glimpse of NBA No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa in the summer league, it was certainly the night to end on as he shows incredible potential for the Washington Wizards.
Dybantsa posted 23 points and seven rebounds in the Wizard’s 104-85 win over the Sacramento Kings that puts them at 2-0 in the summer league. He shot 6-for-15 but struggled a bit on his three-point attempts.
However, through two games, Dybantsa has averaged an impressive 25 points, seven rebounds, two assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks.
As teams will often shut down their top lottery picks after a two-game stretch, it would appear that Sunday night may have been Dybantsa’s last in Vegas.
If so, it was the performance to end on.
To read more about Dybantsa’s impressive outing and what it means for Washington’s hopes next season, here’s the full story from Wizards Roundtable writer Ahmed Ghafir.
Dybantsa has played like a man possessed defensively, which was his intent after being criticized for his play on defense while in college with the BYU Cougars.
Dybantsa would finish with three blocks and two steals against the Kings and showed the ability to guard 7-foot-1 Maxime Raynaud.
His hopes are high as he’s self-aware and self-critical of his time in college that he found to be “lazy” play on defense and wants to turn things around to be a first-team All-Defensive-caliber player.
Despite showing noticeable fatigue in the contest, especially late, he was praised by Wizards coach T.J. Sorrentine.
The young talent on the roster is exciting to pair alongside veterans Trae Young and Anthony Davis, for a playoff push this season.
