Denver Nuggets guard Christian Braun discusses his hot shooting night.

Christian Braun got hot against the Phoenix Suns on Friday, knocking down seven of his nine three point attempts and helping lead the Denver Nuggets to a 127-120 victory.

Braun came into the game shooting 23% from three, though he did hit three threes in the fourth quarter against the New Orleans Pelicans in the prior game.

After the game, Braun was asked if those threes against the Pelicans carried over to his performance against the Suns.

He admitted that maybe seeing the ball go in helped with things, but said that his process was the same, and that he was open and getting good looks all season.

“It wasn’t the result of anything. Just keep shooting and staying consistent,” he said.

Braun noted that he didn’t feel like he was hesitating through the first five games.

“I shot when I was open and passed when I wasn’t,” he said, believing he had gotten good looks all season, but they weren’t falling.

He reiterated that his process has remained the same and that nothing had changed.

A Positive Sign For Braun

The Nuggets need a big season out of Braun, especially with how last season went and the losses of Tim Hardaway Jr. and Peyton Watson.

Braun shot a career-low 30% from three last season after shooting 39% the season prior. Braun’s extension of an average of $25 million per season kicked in this season, putting more pressure on him to perform.

He’s already increased his volume in terms of three-point shooting this year, shooting six threes per game through the first six games. He shot 3.3 threes per game last year.

All of his attempts have been classified as open or wide open according to NBA.com, which is similar to last season when 2.3 of his 3.3 attempts were classified as wide open, but he shot only 33% on those attempts.

Given how much attention Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray command and the way Denver runs its offense, the shots are going to be there for Braun. In missing a notorious volume shooter like Hardaway Jr., along with Watson, on top of injuries to Spencer Jones and Julian Strawther, the Nuggets need Braun to launch without hesitation, and they need the shots to fall.

After not seeing the ball go in the basket for four games and three quarters, the shots falling against New Orleans and then carrying over to the game against the Suns will hopefully be the start of a season-long turnaround for Braun, which will go a long way in determining how far the Nuggets can go this year.
