A new report regarding the future of LeBron James.
LeBron James is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason after wrapping up his 23rd season in the league.
James hasn't announced that he will return for his 24th season, but most expect to be back for at least one more year. LeBron is currently 41-years-old, and will be 42 in December.
Despite his age, he was still one of the more productive players in the league this past season, averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists. In the playoffs, he averaged 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists.
He was the best players on the Lakers in the playoffs and helped them advance past the Houston Rockets in round one despite the team missing Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves for the majority of the season.
The Future of LeBron James
LeBron will have his options should he come back for another season given his productivity and ticket-selling ability.
ESPN insider Shams Charania told Pat McAfee, "I do know a lot of teams are calling LeBron James and his camp. The expectation is that he's going to play another season and we will see if it's going to be with the Lakers."
Shams said that he was told by Rich Paul, the founder of Klutch, that every contender in the NBA is calling about LeBron.
The Denver Nuggets are viewed by most as a contender as they were one of the favorites to win the NBA championship coming into the season.
Things didn't exactly work out for Denver as they lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in six games in the first round of the playoffs, but having Nikola Jokic on the team will keep them in championship conversations.
LeBron on the Nuggets?
If LeBron joined the Nuggets, he'd either have to take less money given Denver's cap situation, or work out a sign-and-trade.
The Lakers have reportedly eyed Aaron Gordon, who could help make the money work, and be a great role player for Denver. Gordon is a two-way player who fits nicely next to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
LeBron would give Denver another shot creator that they severly lacked in the playoffs with Murray struggling to create separation and Jokic struggling with his touch. LeBron also showed a willingness to adapt his game next to Doncic and Reaves as this past season wore on, something he would have to do in Denver given how much Jokic has the ball in his hands.
As for now, fans will have to wait and see what LeBron does next.
