David Adelman Discusses Nuggets' Odd Stretch of Games After Grizzlies Win cover image

Denver Nuggets head coach David Adelman was proud of the way his team bounced back after a hard travel schedule.

The Denver Nuggets bounced back from a loss to the Sacramento Kings with a triumphant 125-115 win over the Memphis Grizzlies Monday night, and they're able to look forward to four days of rest.

Denver has bounced around the country in recent games and endured a back-to-back set of games that culminated in the loss to Sacramento. While Nuggets players didn't blame their wacky schedule for the poor performance on the court, head coach David Adelman recognized the challenge of their tough schedule following the win over Memphis.

"That was one of the oddest four-game stretches that I've ever been a part of in the NBA. With the back-to-back down south, then head back to Denver, then come back down south. I can't remember anything like that. Obviously this is different this year with the TV schedules and all those things," Adelman said (via Altitude Plus).

How TV Can Affect Scheduling

Marketability is certainly a factor when it comes to NBA schedule construction. Balancing the schedules of 30 teams can result in some scheduling weirdness regardless, especially when basketball's one-and-done nature of games is taken into account.

Then, when it comes to teams like the Nuggets, who have built themselves a must-watch brand of basketball with superstars like Nikola Jokic on the team, a larger focus could be put on giving them marquee matchups for television ratings, like Adelman alluded too, while the travel and logistics involved in creating those matchups may not always be considered as strongly.

Despite the fatigue, the Nuggets came back strong against Memphis and have kept their impressive season rolling.

Nuggets Bounce Back

"Really proud of the guys. We came back home, the Sacramento game, a game we could have won. I really did see a lot of weariness in that game. For the guys to bounce back tonight, pick themselves back up, they had great energy this morning when we met and I think it translated to the court," Adelman said.

Denver won't play again until Nov. 28, giving them a few days to rest, reset and enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. When they do return to the court against the San Antonio Spurs, they'll be off on a busy schedule again with back-to-back games, part of a stretch of four games in six days that will see Denver alternating between home and away matchups.

Monday's game proved that Denver can fight back against fatigue and emerge stronger with winning basketball, but their upcoming games prove that their schedule is far from easy as the season goes on.
