The Denver Nuggets lost a thriller in overtime to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday evening. David Adelman described it in his postgame presser as the kind of game that'll get shown on NBATV one day.

Denver has not been playing great basketball as of late. Unfortunately, one of the reasons the Nuggets found themselves in a shootout that went down to the final buzzer was the uncharacteristic struggles of Jamal Murray in this one. He finished the evening with just five points on a dreadful 1-for-14 shooting mark.

When asked about what reasoning he could give for Murray's struggles, Adelman was up front. "There was discomfort in his arm for sure," Adelman said. "Some of the looks he had tonight are shots he makes in his sleep ... I can't remember a night like this from him. This is not a normal thing, as everybody knows."

An Uncharacteristic Night

Adelman and every Nuggets fan knew there had to be some unusual circumstances affecting Jamal during this game. When a player is dealing with physical discomfort in his shooting arm, the ripple effects on mechanics and confidence can be significant even if the injury itself doesn't look dramatic from the outside.

Murray is one of the most reliable shot-makers in the entire league, and particularly one of the best when the lights are brightest. Lakers fans have been frustrated for years watching him torch their team.

A 1-for-14 night from him is the kind of thing that genuinely stops you in your tracks when you see it in a box score. This was a situation where a guy had to gut it out through something that simply couldn't be ignored.

Murray's Status Going Forward

Adelman didn't seem to have any worry in his voice about Murray's availability moving forward. He noted that Jamal was going get a couple of days off to get his body right, and that they'd go forth from there.

The organization is clearly keeping an eye on this development, but it doesn't seem to be an impending tragedy as of this writing. One thing is for sure: Denver can't afford to have Murray compromised right now.

The Nuggets are right in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race with less than a month left in the regular season. Nikola Jokic can will this team to wins on any given night, but Denver is likely not going anywhere without their second-best player at his best.

The loss to LA hurts, but the bigger story walking out of Crypto.com Arena Saturday night was the long-term outlook for Jamal Murray. You simply don't see many games from him like this one, and everyone in Nuggets Nation will be waiting for him to bounce back.
