Aaron Gordon had just eight points in the Denver Nuggets' 121-116 win over the Washington Wizards Saturday night, but he may have been the most impactful player on the court anyways.

Gordon had a double-double with 10 rebounds, all defensive, and 11 assists in Saturday's game as he showcased a somewhat uncommon role for him as a pass setter and playmaker on the court.

With the amount of injury trouble that the Nuggets have had this season, many players have been thrust in either unusual or unexpected roles, but Gordon may be the most exemplary case of a Denver player adapting to whatever has been asked of him.

Gordon the Passer

Throughout the night Gordon was passing dimes through the paint to his teammates or setting screens that opened up lanes for Jamal Murray, who scored 41, and Tim Hardaway Jr., who scored 30.

Normally a hard-charging big man himself, Gordon slipped into this point forward role seamlessly and it's just another example of the way that his versatility makes things easier for Nuggets head coach David Adelman as he can draw up new schemes with Gordon in virtually any position or role with confidence.

"Aaron is just a chameleon," Adelman said (via Nuggets). "Every night he just kind of takes on what's needed. Tonight it was playmaking. It was the defensive rebound that no one else could get. I was wishing he would've gotten a triple-double. I didn't know he was that close until after the game."

Especially with Nikola Jokic out, Gordon has needed to assume the role of premier big man on the team, a role that he's able to adapt to well, like many of his other roles.

A Massive Personal Season

Putting his versatility aside, Gordon is having a monster season with the Nuggets purely from a statistical perspective.

In his sixth season with the Nuggets, Gordon is averaging 18.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Gordon's scoring average isn't just a career-high, it's a massive jump up from his scoring averages in the past few seasons.

The Nuggets have the benefit of major talent around them, especially with Murray and Jokic on the roster and an every-growing supporting cast of promising young players, but Gordons overall excellence and his ability to fit in wherever he's needed elevates the Nuggets even further.

The Nuggets look more dangerous by the day and they've won six of their last seven and when they return to full strength they should prove even more dangerous and Gordon will look to impress in the next new role that will be asked of him.

"Aaron, as we all know, he's been so good here in so many different ways," Adelman said.
