The Denver Nuggets signed 29-year-old Alpha Diallo to a one-year, $1.4 million deal.

This offseason, the Denver Nuggets have not been big spenders in the free agency period, but they decided to look overseas to strengthen their guard depth ahead of the 2026-2027 season.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Nuggets signed EuroLeague Defender of the Year Alpha Diallo to a one-year, $1.4 million deal. Diallo is 29 years old and was once a pivotal player in his days playing for Providence.

Diallo is coming off a season in Monaco in which he averaged 11.9 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. He also averaged 1.3 steals per game and 0.5 blocks.

Diallo also played at Providence for four seasons, stretching from 2016 to the shortened 2019-2020 season. During his time there, he averaged 12.2 points per game, 2.3 assists, and 6.4 rebounds. He also finished his career averaging 1.3 steals per game.

What Can Diallo Add to Denver's Roster?

With Diallo's contract being fully guaranteed, he will likely be on the roster for all of next season. He brings more depth to a backcourt that just lost Tim Hardaway Jr., and he will likely be the replacement.

Diallo is not the most efficient shooter from long range, as his three-point percentage in the EuroLeague was just 33 percent this past season. Hardaway was a 40 percent three-point shooter this past season, and it would hurt to downgrade from that next season.

In 2025-2026, the Nuggets had the 21st-best defensive rating at 117.46. The addition of Diallo can add a different element to the Nuggets' defense, primarily on the perimeter. The Nuggets struggled against the Timberwolves' backcourt in the first round of the 2026 playoffs. Adding perimeter defense could be a point of emphasis this offseason.

What's Next For the Nuggets?

In terms of other roster moves, the Nuggets have several questions to answer. They are in jeopardy of paying a big penalty for going over the luxury tax if they do not move around pieces and re-sign Peyton Watson.

Bringing Watson back is also a big decision that Denver has to make this summer. It's clear the franchise wants to bring the 24-year-old back after his breakout season, but the price of the contract makes negotiations difficult, considering where the Nuggets are in that area.

They will also need to make decisions on whom they will trade. Players like Cameron Johnson, Christian Braun, and Aaron Gordon have been rumored to be in trade talks, but as of now, nothing has come from those rumors.
