Jamal Murray speaks on his 53-point game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Jamal Murray went off on the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, dropping a season-high 53 points to help the Denver Nuggets to a 142-135 victory.

Murray went 19-28 from the field and 9-14 from three, his third game this season making nine or more from deep.

The Nuggets All-Star got off to a hot start, scoring 15 points in 11 minutes in the first quarter, shooting 6-9 from the field. The second quarter was even better as he finished with 18 points in seven minutes on 5-6 shooting and 4-5 from three.

Coming out of halftime, he cooled down a little, scoring just three points, but taking only two shots. Denver led by 11 going into the fourth, but the Mavericks cut it to one with 4:20 left.

Denver needed everything Murray had to give in the fourth, and he had plenty to give, scoring 17 points in the final frame.

Jamal Murray's Simple Explanation For His Hot Night

Murray is no stranger to explosive scoring outputs, though this was just his fourth career game with 50+ points.

Speaking to the media after the game, Murray said about his scoring, "I was making some shots and kept making them."

Instead, Murray wanted to give credit to his teammate Nikola Jokic, who had an impressive stat line of his own 23 points, 21 rebounds, and 19 assists to only one turnover.

Jokic was one assist shy of becoming the only player in NBA history to record two 20/20/20 triple doubles. Only he, Wilt Chamberlain, and Russell Westbrook have put up those numbers.

Jamal Murray's Scoring

Murray's career high in scoring is 55 points, which he achieved against the Portland Trail Blazers on February 12, 2025. He shot 20-36 from the field and 7-15 from three in that game.

He's always had a knack for scoring in bunches, but this season he's putting together his most consistent scoring season of his career.

Murray is averaging a career high 25.4 points per game, four points better than his last season average, which was his career high for the time. His increase in volume has only seen an increase in percentage.

He's shooting a career high 48.3% on 18.2 attempts per game from the field and a career high 42.6% on 7.4 attempts from three. His 56% effective field percentage is also a career high.

Murray has enjoyed one of his healthier seasons, already playing in 69 games, his highest output since 2018-19 when he played 75 games.
