Jamal Murray Speaks on What He Learns From Nikola Jokic cover image

Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic have been teammates for nine seasons.

Being able to share the court with Nikola Jokic is not only an opportunity to play winning basketball, it's an opportunity to learn about the game itself.

For Jamal Murray, that's exactly what he's been able to do in the nine seasons that he's been teammates with Jokic. The two have played championship caliber basketball together and they've weathered the storm of injuries that the Denver Nuggets have faced this season.

It hasn't always been easy for Murray, who has dealt with some severe injuries over the course of his career. That's meant that during some of the Nuggets playoff runs over the past near decade, and in those times he's taken the opportunity from the sidelines to learn as much as he can from Jokic.

Murray Taking Lessons

And when it comes to Jokic, there is a lot to learn from the Serbian star. Jokic has revolutionized not only the center position, he's brought a new dimension to the entire game. Jokic has not only been an effective scorer, he stands out the most as a playmaker, able to use his size to facilitate plays and get the ball to his teammates.

“The way he watches the post. The way he reads double-teams. His pace. His demeanor. He’s so consistent in the weight room. His routine," Murray said (via DNVR Nuggets).

The uniqueness of Jokic's skillset benefits even more because of just how much Jokic's playmaking abilities can translate to Murray's own skillset.

Jokic's contributions offensively can be seen in the Nuggets' overall offensive effectiveness. The Nuggets' are the NBA's highest-scoring team at an average of 120.4 points per game and ninth in assists per game with an average of 28.

The Combination of Jokic and Murray

Jokic and Murray have come together to be one of the best one-two punch in the NBA and they look to be only getting better. With Murray having his career-best scoring season and finally earning his first-career All-Star selection, it looks like his exposure to playing alongside Jokic is playing off.

On top of his scoring upgrades, Murray's assist numbers have taken a big jump. He's averaging 7.6 assists per game, a full 1.6 more assists per game compared to last season.

Murray's game is on the rise and his exposure to Jokic ands his ability to grow alongside him can only help him grow even more.

Murray may have suffered setbacks from injuries in the past, but he's used those experiences to learn even more and he's benefited from that experience and made himself and the Nuggets better for it.
