Nikola Jokic has disliked fan interactions as the years go by.
Throughout his career, Denver Nuggets Center Nikola Jokic has been a player who’s been known for not showing too much personality. On the court, he has shown some intensity, but when it comes to interactions with teammates and behavior off the court, he has been more laid-back.
After the Nuggets won the 2023 NBA Championship, Jokic was happy to win the series and he showed joy, but he told the media he was simply happy to finally go home.
Jokic also found out about the parade during the celebrations, and he was not thrilled, considering he wanted to go back to Serbia for the summer.
Ron Chenoy-Imagn ImagesJust recently, Nikola Jokic came out and spoke about what life has been like lately with all the attention he gets from fans around the world. Considering he is a three-time MVP, he has become one of the most popular basketball players in the world, especially in Europe.
He’s not a fan of the attention he’s gotten and the number of people who go up to him in public.
“I'm getting more and more bothered by popularity. This is going to sound corny, but, I'm getting ruder to people who approach me,” Jokic said.
“Honestly, it's tiring…Some people around me know, I don't take pictures because it's my time. I'll sound rude again, but what can I do? If people can't understand me, I understand everything, but it's been 11-12 years and enough is enough.”
Ron Chenoy-Imagn ImagesThe popularity of Jokic has seemingly increased the longer he’s been in the NBA. He had a slower start to his career simply because of where he was drafted, and he was part of an established frontcourt.
As more opportunities arose for Jokic to become the premier player on the Nuggets' frontcourt, the more he could showcase to the world what kind of player he really is.
Eventually, this turned into him being the main piece the Nuggets want to build around, and he built a great relationship with guard Jamal Murray throughout this process.
Other players around the league have had similar opinions and experiences to Jokic as they’ve gotten farther along in their careers.
Isaiah J. Downing-Imagn ImagesFor example, Philadelphia 76ers small forward LeBron James had a situation in France, and a boy came up to him in a hurry to take a picture, which James denied him because of the way the kid presented himself to him.
While it could sound shocking to fans, this is a normal occurrence to feel this way. If Jokic wanted to fix the issue, he’d have to retire from the game and live a quiet life, but he’s still at the top of his game, so that may have to wait.
