Nikola Jokic is still one of the best players in the NBA today and with that kind of talent comes a lot of interest from teams across the league, or in some cases, teams outside the country. 

Jokic has been with the Denver Nuggets since the 2015-16 season after being drafted in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft and in that time he's won three MVPs and won a championship with Denver. 

Last season was another moderate success in the regular season, but the Nuggets were bounced from the first round by the 6-seed Minnesota Timberwolves and after pushing off extension talks for another offseason, there are rumblings of doubt about what the Jokic's future looks like, and if that future still includes the Nuggets. 

But it isn't just NBA teams that are keeping an eye on Jokic. 

Dimitris Giannakopoulos, the owner of Panathinaikos B.C., the premier Greek professional basketball team in the EuroLeague, made headlines recently by revealing that he made an offer to poach Jokic from the NBA and bring him to Athens. 

It doesn't look Jokic is interested though. Misko Raznatovic, Jokic's longtime agent, recently confirmed that Giannakopoulos' offer was genuine, but that he had to explain to the Greek businessman why that couldn't happen.

"In 30 years of working in this business, I have never enountered an offer like that," Raznatovic said (via HoopsHype). "Given the very direct relationship I have with him, I immediately explained that the offer could not be considered." 

Trying to poach Jokic would be implausible for a lot of reasons. Given that Jokic is still under contract with the Nuggets, trying to break that contract and buy Jokic out would be costly, to say the least, and the Nuggets wouldn't agree to it in the first place. 

On top of that, Giannakopoulos would have to open up his pockets for Jokic more than ever before if he truly wanted the Serbian star. Panathinaikos' currently highest paid player, Kendrick Nunn, makes an annual average salary of €4.5 million, a little over $5.1 million. 

Jokic wil make $59 million next season in the NBA. 

Giannakopolous' offer was certainly ambitious and Jokic would have been great for ticket sales in Athens, but it's safe to say that no matter what Giannakopolous' offered, it was going to be implausible to think that Jokic is going anywhere but any NBA team that's interested for the rest of his playing days. 

But one thing is for certain about Giannakopolous' mad attempt at going after one of the biggest stars in the world, you have to respect his audacity.
