The last two games for the Denver Nuggets have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Matching up with the Houston Rockets on the road this past Friday, they took care of business with a 112-109 victory, defeating one of their top competitors in the Western Conference. However, it was just the front side of a back-to-back.
Going up against the Sacramento Kings in the second leg, turnovers helped fuel the Kings to steal a 128-123 victory in Denver, as the Nuggets now sit with a 12-4 record. Unfortunately, the weekend also brought some bad injury news, as the Nuggets head into their Monday night matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies with another starter sidelined.
After suffering an injury during the first quarter of the team's win over the Rockets last Friday, Aaron Gordon has been ruled OUT for Monday's contest with a right hamstring strain. As has been reported by ESPN's Shams Charania, it's a Grade 2 strain that will have him re-evaluated in four-to-six weeks.
Gordon has been referred to as the glue of this Nuggets team since being acquired from the Orlando Magic back in 2021. Before getting injured, Gordon was on track to average a career-high in points, as his average sits at 18.8 per game despite exiting early against the Rockets.
He will join teammate and fellow starter Christian Braun, who is OUT with an ankle sprain. Similar to Gordon's, Braun's injury is a multi-week absence, as the Nuggets will have to make do without two members of their starting lineup. Peyton Watson has been elevated as a result, with rookie Spencer Jones most recently getting some work in the starting lineup.
Lastly, guard Julian Strawther is OUT due to lower back injury management. Unlike Braun and Gordon, Strawther could return to the court soon, where he'll likely carve out a bigger role in the absence of two key starters.
As for the Grizzlies, they could be rather shorthanded on Monday night, with Ja Morant listed as OUT due to a right calf strain and Jaren Jackson Jr. listed as QUESTIONABLE with a right ankle sprain. The regulars remain on the Grizzlies' injury report, including Brandon Clarke (knee), Ty Jerome (calf), Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe), and Javon Small (toe), who are all OUT.
With all of these injuries, it's hard to tell who will step up for the Grizzlies, but the expectations will be high for Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic to take advantage of this injury-riddled Memphis squad.
Despite being on the road, the odds should be in their favor, with tip-off set for 8:00 p.m. EST.
