Spencer Jones may not be a Nugget next season.

The ownership of the Denver Nuggets made it clear at the beginning of the offseason that they wanted to "run it back" with as much of the existing core from this past season, which did end in a third-seed regular season finish before being eliminated in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but so far this offseason Denver hasn't followed through.

The major question that is so far unanswered about the Nuggets' offseason is Peyton Watson, who's contract negotiations with the Nuggets have seemingly stalled, but there is another role player who distinguished himself who's future with the Nuggets may be in question after a recent update from the player himself.

Spencer Jones has been with the Nuggets for the past two seasons after being signed by the Nuggets after going undrafted in 2024 and after having a quiet rookie season he, like Watson, were unexpectedly called up when so many of Denver's starters were held back by injuries.

Will Jones Return?

Looking strictly at box scores, Jones may not seem to have made much of an impact by averaging 5.5 points, 3.3 rebounds. 0.8 assists and 0.8 steals in 22.1 minutes per game, but he put together a handful of stellar performances when he needed to and otherwise was a crucial "glue guy" for the Nuggets bench.

Now, Jones is a free agent and the idea of him returning to the Nuggets next season is in doubt after a video that Jones posted on his LinkedIn that alluded to him finding a new team.

"Free agency started and I'm currently fielding new offers as we speak," Jones said. "New millions, potentially new job and new place, everything on the line."

The grander point to Jones' post was how his day-to-day as a free agent doesn't change much since his agent handles most if not all of the negotiations, Jones is still doing the same workouts at the Nugget facility that he always has been.

He ended his post by saying that free agency is a "great lesson in uncertainty" and that his work stays the same no matter what's happening around him, but he was also reflecting on the fact that any day training at the Nuggets facility could be his last.

Denver's Quiet Offseason Continues

It's a somewhat ominous message, even if that wasn't Jones' intention behind it, and it definitely speaks to a seeming stall in his negotiations with the Nuggets.

Of course, it's fair for Jones to do his due diligence as a free agent to hear offers from other teams, but from Denver's side of things, even more inaction in what's been an uneventful offseason for the Nuggets doesn't bode well for the future security of the roster.
